I've made a couple of tweaks to my plain text system as I continue to try to get out from under big-tech's shadow.
Now has a little script which I can use to add events without necessarily opening the calendar.txt file. The most useful feature is that it allows adding recurring events. It isn't really a finished thing yet. There are some loose ends to work out, but even with those, it is a helpful addition to my workflow.
I've added a little addition to the file format, too. Most events have a time attached, but I've introduced
-- Some event --
meaning, I'm expecting 'some event' to occupy the whole day.
Not very sophisticated, but it works for me.
I've been a pain the rear-end to my treasurer over the years, because I've really not been good at getting my monthly expenses claims in on time. (My wife doesn't like it either!) But I think I've found the remedy in a csv file and a little script that can be used to add expense items and generate the excel claims file that the treasurer likes at the end of the month. I'm hesitant to sound too certain, but I've been using it to "do my expenses" as part of a daily routine throughout this month, rather than sitting down with a spreadsheet at the end of the month, and so far it feels like it has much less friction.
